Arctic Trek in aid of the Genie's Wish charity
2026 will be the 9th year that we've run treks to the Arctic Circle - starting with our first trek back in 2015. It's also our 15th year of working, playing and racing in the Arctic after taking part in some iconic winter races including the Yukon Arctic Ultra, Arrowhead 135 and Rovaniemi races over 150 and 300kms. Thanks for your interest in our treks.
The Genie’s Wish is a UK registered charity whose mission is to enhance the lives of people aged 0-40 years, living in England and Wales, who are suffering from a critical or terminal illness or living with a life-limiting medical condition. The charity's purpose is to bring respite and joy into the lives of their beneficiaries and their families, by providing them with a life-changing wish, experience, or ongoing opportunity.

Deposit
A non-refundable deposit of £350 is payable direct to Breaking Strain by 31st March 2025 to secure your place on the trip. One of the BS team will send you an invoice for this once you register.
Fundraising
The fundraising route is only by prior agreement between the chosen charity, Breaking Strain and you. In this instance the charity sets the minimum fundraising amount which will be greater than the £2500 operating fee. In this instance the charity will pay Breaking Strain in lieu of the participant and then reclaim from the fundraising amount.
Kit Requirements
Breaking Strain will provide the pulk, hauling system, snowshoes, tents and any cooking equipment required for the duration of the trip.
There is an expectation that you will provide all your own clothing and your sleep system for the trek. You will be given a comprehensive kit list on sign up which includes all the equipment you will need to successfully undertake this challenge. Sleeping bags and down jackets represent a large expense so these can be hired directly from BSE and collected in-country. We'll also have a select range of gear to buy from us at a discounted rate. These items have been tested in the Arctic and are proven to work in the conditions.
Travel Insurance
You are recommended to purchase travel insurance at the time of, or shortly after, booking. You are responsible for ensuring that all activities you undertake during the trip are covered by your insurance policy. This policy should also include a force majeure extension, medical and lost baggage. If you have an insurance policy provided by your bank you may need to provide your account number and sort code instead of a policy number - contact your insurance provider for details.
Breaking Strain require your 24 hour emergency assistance telephone number. This can be found within your insurance policy wording document under ‘what to do in an emergency’, ‘emergency medical assistance’, ‘useful telephone numbers’ or similar.
